Student Affairs Division Scholarships and Educational Loans

About the scholarship system

Scholarships aim to alleviate the burden of tuition and living expenses for students who have difficulty continuing their studies due to financial circumstances, and to help them establish a stable foundation for a fulfilling student life. Scholarship programs include the "New System for Supporting Higher Education," the "Japan Student Services Organization Scholarship," "Local Government Scholarships," and "Various Organization Scholarships." For external scholarships, application information is sent to the university and posted on the university website and on campus bulletin boards as needed, but some local governments and various organizations conduct their own recruitment processes.

Scholarship system and types

New higher education support system (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan Student Services Organization)

This system combines the support of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's "tuition fee reduction" and the provision of "grant-type scholarships" by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO).

The amount of the grant (monthly) and the percentage of tuition fee reduction will be determined for each category based on household income requirements and other criteria.

There is an upper limit to the amount of tuition fee reductions and exemptions set by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO)

There are two types of scholarships: "grant-type" scholarships, which do not require repayment in principle, and "loan-type" scholarships (interest-free/interest-bearing) that do require repayment. Applications are accepted twice a year, in spring (April) and autumn (September). For details on application eligibility and selection criteria, please refer to the Scholarship Information Digest.

Applications for sudden changes in household finances, emergency support, and short-term employment can be made at any time. Please contact the Student Affairs Division, Window 3.

[After recruitment]
You must report your enrollment status and who is your breadwinner every year (grant type).
Every year, eligibility is determined through the following two processes: 1) assessment of academic performance (grant/loan type) and 2) review of support category (assessment of household income) (grant type).

Various scholarships (foundations established by local governments, private companies, etc.)

Scholarship programs established by local governments, private companies, and other foundations vary in terms of application periods, types of grants or loans, and amounts. Organizations that request applications from the university will post notices on the scholarship bulletin board in front of the Student Affairs Office on the first floor of the main building.
For university-recommended scholarships (with internal selection taking place in April), you will need to submit a "Scholarship Application Form" (submission deadline: April 15th).

Information regarding application guidelines and documents for university-recommended scholarships (to be released in late March)

Among the scholarships offered through the general application process, there are two types: those applied for through the university and those applied for directly by the student without going through the university. If you require a letter of recommendation from the university (with the president's seal), please contact the Student Affairs Office.

You can search for scholarship repayment support systems implemented by local governments.
